Update: Good News For Companion Animals in Michigan!
On April 27, the Montcalm County Board of Commissioners voted 6-3 to end the release of its shelter animals to R&R Research, a USDA-licensed Class B dealer that sells animals to research facilities. The county's contract with R&R Research will end on August 1.
Also, on April 7, Osceola County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a recommendation to end the release of animals from its pound to research.
Michigan is home to three of the ten remaining random source Class B dealers in the country, yet only two counties continue to provide animals from pounds to these dealers.
What You Can Do:
If you live in Montcalm County, please thank the following County Commissioners for voting not renew the animal shelter's contract with R&R Research. Please also ask your friends and family to do the same.
In addition, if you are a Michigan resident, please urge your state legislators to support a state-wide ban on pound seizure.
